I will write back the person from EMS who contacted me recently and I will
get more details,
and then I will let you know.

Yes, you're nuts. You must develop the clues first and THEN decide where to
hide your box. The other
way is backwards.
Just kidding.... hope you have a good sense of humor...

>Any input on the best way to plan a box in an area you don't know well yet
would be appreciated.

I would suggest that you just look around and let your instincts lead you to
a nice spot. IMO it can be any
place from the top of a mountain to the side of a busy street. I see no
reason why we should limit ourselves
to remote locations. I would suggest using a container that hermetically
seals since you may not be back to
check on it for a long time. A few of us have learned that moisture can
creep in to the regular tupperware and rubbermaid-type containers. Another
trick is to package the contents in a ziplock baggie and then put it in the
box, though I have not heard back from the people who have tried this. It
would be interesting to hear
if that has worked for those who have tried it. I use the long tall plastic
jar that seals up tight as a drum. If you want to try one send me your
snail mail addy and I will send you one. If you like it I will give you
instructions on how to order more. They go for .50 ea. (cheap too!) if you
order 10.00 or more.

JD, can I ask where you are from and in what state do you plan to plant a
letterbox?

I'd be remiss to not tell you that the gist of what you see
here at this site should be credited to the group.  It is their
creative energy, ideas and input that drives it and makes it
look this way.  I'm just a mechanic.

Oh oh, I was going to do taxes this weekend. Maybe I'd better place a
letterbox instead, just in case Der Wolf is coming to California......!!!!

...a very modest mechanic, who just happens to have also invented
the vehicle, I might add.

Gratefully,

No way Dan'l: While there are ideas brainstormed by many, you are far
more than a mechanic only - You've been a driving force, getting it
done, unlike me, who occassionally has an idea but depends upon someone
else to pull it off.

Dan'l,

You're too humble.

Even a newbie can tell you're the glue that keeps this together. (Mitch, Erik, Susan, Randy and others I don't know by name yet, I know you don't take offense). It's genuinely encouraging, might I say heartwarming, to witness the synergy of this group in action.

BTW Dan'l, I was going to alert you to a problem accessing Alaska's clues yesterday, but, Lo and Behold, you must have been doing some re-designing. I like the intermediate maps you put in for Oregon and Alaska. I hope to plant enough boxes (and recruit other boxers) this spring to warrant a regional map out here on the Eastern side. Thanks again, and stop being so da-- humble!
